Sailor Winter Under the Stars Fountain Pen

‘Winter Under the Stars’ is a limited edition series of fountain pens crafted using the Sailor King of Pens by the celebrated kaga maki-e artist Ikki Moroike.

Sailor will produce the other three editions of the other ‘Seasons Under the Stars’ during 2013.

Japanese woodblock artwork from the famous Edo period is well known in the East. There are also other important and influential Japanese artists born in the latter part of the 19th Century known as the Shin Hanga (new woodblock) artist movement, which started around 1910-1940.

Sailor have chosen works from four of these Shin Hanga artists, all of whom were famous for their special artistic (shiki-e) of landscape painting, typically showing night landscapes.
Ikki Moroike (kaga – maki-e artist) has drawn his inspiration from these night landscape compositions and he has specially added the Stars and main Constellation of the Seasons concerned to the night skies.

For this model Winter Under The Stars he has chosen Shin Hanga artist Kawase Hasui (1883-1957), who was regarded as the master of snow scapes.

The woodblock painting chosen by this artist is ‘Canal in the Snow’.
