5. Lamy Joy

The Lamy Joy makes for a great beginner calligraphy pen, featuring Lamy’s signature high build quality it uses the same Z50 nib as the Safari and comes with a range of oblique nibs from 1.1 to 1.9 which make it a great place to get started with Italic calligraphy.

the oblique angle of the nib is actually designed to replicate the strokes made by a Japanese brush pen during traditional Kanji writing, allowing for a huge variety of different line widths and styles, making it an ideal nib for anyone who likes to be more experimental and creative with their calligraphy.

3. Tom’s Studio Lumos

If you’re looking for something that’s a little different to a fountain pen for your calligraphy needs, then the Tom’s Studio Lumos makes a great choice, designed as an environmentally friendly fine-liner it can be endlessly refilled with any fountain pen ink, and comes with a variety of included nibs that can be easily swapped out for a variety of different writing styles, particularly good for mono-line calligraphy, its a great pen to use if you want to focus on the form of the writing without having to worry about nib flex, or applying different pressures.
