Namiki Emperor “Owl”
£6,400.00
The Namiki Emperor Owl is created by using the Rankaku and Togidashi-Taka Maki-e techniques.
The Rankaku process involves embedding small pieces of, or powdered, quails shells in the lacquered surface, and then coating with lacquer – this is what is used to create the picture. The design is then revealed by burnishing the lacquer. It will take several months to create this pen.
The Togidasghi-Taka Maki-e focuses on the main design through the use of lacquer and charcoal powder. Several additional layers of lacquer are then applied and after this has hardened, it is burnished.
It will take several months to create this pen.
