Amethyste de l’Oural (Amethyst of the Urals) represents the much-prized gemstone mined in eastern Russia, and is the first colour in a new range of Herbin Fountain Pen inks. It is a deep, rich royal purple, with shimmering silver shot through it.

1798 was the year that Jacques Herbin introduced his own line of inks.

These 50ml bottles are sealed – in true Herbin fashion – with a hand-dipped wax seal, in a colour complementary to the ink.

J Herbin describe themselves as "The oldest name in ink production in the world", having been making inks since 1670. 1798 - in the name of this range of special inks - was also a significant year for Herbin, aas it was the year he produced his first personal line of ink. It was a significant year for the rest of France, too, as it was the year leading up to the rise of General Napoleon Bonaparte.
