The Onoto Horatio Nelson Sterling Silver Pen is a tribute by Onoto to that most famous hero of Cap St Vincent, the Battle of the Nile, and of Trafalgar. Crafted in sold sterling silver, this pen is a wonderfully luxurious writing instrument to behold. What is more, the silver used in the making of this pen is “Victory Silver”, retrieved from HMS Victory, thereby forming a direct link between Nelson’s flagship and this beautiful pen. All sterling silver contains a tiny amount of copper to improve its malleability, and the copper used in the sterling silver of this pen also comes from Victory.

The silver barrel of the Onoto Horatio Nelson is fashioned and fluted to resemble Nelson’s Column in Trafalgar Square, which helps with the grip of the pen and lightens the barrel without compromising its strength. The smooth end hood carries the sterling silver hallmarks, and the end of the barrel is stamped with the limited-edition number. As with all of their pens, the Onoto Horatio Nelson Sterling Silver Pen carries the words “ONOTO the PEN” and “Made in England” on its barrel.

The cap of the Onoto Horatio Nelson fountain pen is a wonderful creation of sterling silver, engine turned with an encircling wave pattern that is coated in a rich deep blue enamel. The cap finial button is gold plated, bearing the “fouled anchor” (an anchor with its cable wrapped around its stock and flukes) that is the insignia of the Royal Navy, and around the cap finial is a series of silver loops, infilled with cobalt-blue enamel, strongly reminiscent of the stern-castle gallery of a first-rate Ship-of-the-Line. Below this is the gold-plated clip band, carrying the clip (also gold plated) that bears Onoto’s cipher and characteristic triple chevron pattern. Opposite the clip is an oval plaque bearing a facsimile of Nelson’s signature and his birth- and death-dates. The cap band is in polished silver, but bears on it three gold-plated bands that (according to Onoto) bring to mind the inisignia on the sleeve of Nelson’s Trafalgar coat.

The nib fitted to the Onoto Horatio Nelson Sterling Silver Pen is their number 7, in 18 carat gold, in Fine, Medium, or Broad, but if you choose “Modified Nib“, then Onoto will hand-make you almost any imaginable nib. Write Here will contact you if you choose the modified nib option to determine your requirements.

This pen can also be supplied with a rollerball conversion kit in sterling silver. This is in addition to the fountain pen nib, allowing to change your pen to a rollerball simply by unscrewing one tip from the barrel (as you would to replace the cartridge) and screwing in the other.

We at Write Here are pleased to make the Onoto Horatio Nelson Sterling Silver Pen available for sale online, to admirers of “The Nelson Touch”.

This pen is one of a limited edition of only 100.
