Visconti Homo Sapiens Demonstrator Bronze Swirl Oversized Rollerball Pen

In some ways, the Visconti Homo Sapiens Demonstrator Bronze Swirl Oversized Fountain Pen follows on from the Homo Sapiens Bronze Age fountain pen. Unlike the earlier Bronze, however, the Bronze Swirl is not made from Mount Etna lava, but is instead a fine example of Visconti’s expertise with demonstrator pens. The cap is made from a solid block of bi-coloured brown and ivory resin, which Visconti say is reminiscent of real ivory, and which is tough and durable. The real magic is in the barrel of the pen, which is a transparent mixture of celluloid and polycarbonate (to Visconti’s secret recipe!) through which is swirled a myriad of tiny particles of bronze. The section and barrel finial are in the same ivory / brown combination as the cap.

Even without ground Etna lava in the resin, the Homo Sapiens Demo Bronze Swirl is a solid pen to hold and, as with many of Visconti’s Oversize writing implements, some may find writing with the cap posted gives too much weight at the top end.

As with its cousins in the Homo Sapiens family, and other top-end Visconti pens, the Demonstrator Bronze Swirl version features the unique push-and-twist bayonet locking system that keeps the cap securely on the pen whilst it’s clipped in the pocket or bag, and this system also means that there is smooth transition between the body and section without the huge step that so irritates the hand in so many screw-capped pens.

The trim on the Visconti Homo Sapiens Demonstrator Bronze Swirl Oversize fountain pen is palladium plated. As well as the ‘Ponte Vecchio‘ arched-bridge clip, that says “Made in Italy”, the pen features a section band inscribed “Homo Sapiens“, twin mid-cap bands characteristic of all Homo Sapiens, and a cap finial.
