Sailor Precious Wood Ebony Kokutan Fountain Pen

The Sailor Precious Wood Ebony Kokutan Fountain Pen is made, as its name suggests, from ebony. In Japanese, this is 黒檀, usually transliterated as “kokutan“, though Sailor occasionally change this to “Kotutan“. This well-known wood is dark – the heartwood of some ebonies can be almost black – and is denser than water, so it will sink. Please do not drop your Sailor Precious Wood Ebony Kokutan Fountain Pen overboard!

Ebony is prized for its colour and fine grain, but some species (particularly Diospyros ebenum) are endangered and cannot be exported. Be assured that the Sailor Precious Wood Ebony Kotutan Fountain Pen is made from a farmed species of timber.

The Sailor Precious Wood Ebony Kokutan Fountain Pen is fitted with gold-plated accompaniments that contrast beautifully with the dark background of the wooden cap and body. The section is of polished black lacquer, and the pen is supplied with Sailor’s excellent 14 carat nib, in Fine only. It will use cartridges, the the Sailor Kokutan fountain pen is also provided with a converter to allow the use of bottled ink.
