Mr Morgan approached me with these superb pen cases some months ago. He lives just outside Shrewsbury. But you know what they say about prophets in their own land – it wasn’t until he came into the shop I managed to catch me I realised how good they were.
When I say they’re good, I mean just about the best I’ve seen. They are made of the very best Italian 2mm vegetable tanned saddle leather, sourced from Walsall based specialist leather wholesalers Marcus Gear. It’s the best. Each case is hand cut, then sewn by hand – saddle stitch, of course – using the very best polyester braided thread from Julius Koch, top German thread manufacturer. Mr Morgan thought about the more traditional linen thread, but this stuff is more durable. Then the edges are bevelled and burnished. Not finished yet – the edges are sealed and the leather fed with beeswax, then burnished and finally polished. Then its popped into a cotton bag, and we’re done.
Mr Morgan’s been working on these for the past year or so, and has refined the design to his satisfaction and incorporated suggestions from customers. He’s obviously got a real passion for getting things right, and these pen cases just ooze rightness.
