Onoto Magna Carta Pen

The Onoto Magna Carta Pen was first produced in 2015 to commemorate the 800th anniversary of the signing of Magna Carta by King John and the barons of England at Runnymead. The pen is milled from solid sterling silver, with 23 carat rose gold accompaniments. This is a large and luxury writing instrument, and quite weighty, but it has the beautiful balance and ease of use that one can expect from Onoto.

The barrel and cap of the Onoto Magna Carta are burnished to give a remarkable matt finish into which are engraved quotations in Latin and Old English, along with the shield of England (per pale three leopards passant guardant). All these engravings are picked out in black enamel, giving this pen a distinctive appearance that will attract attention. As with all of their pens, the Onoto Magna Carta Pen carries the words “ONOTO the PEN” and “Made in England” on its barrel. The hood and the lower part of the cap band are left in polished silver that creates a wonderful contrast to the burnished finish. The hood at the end of the pen is also polished, and carries the hallmarks and serial number of the pen.

The cap of the Onoto Magna Carta Pen has 23-carat rose gold plated fittings, comprising the cap button that features the seal of King John, and the characteristic Onoto clip bearing the company cipher and the distinctive triple-chevron pattern. Around the cap band is a wide band of rose gold bearing the words “MAGNA CARTA“. The pen body also has a rose-gold plated button.

The nib fitted to the Onoto Magna Carta Pen is the excellent number 7 in 18 carat gold, in Fine, Medium, or Broad, but if you choose “Modified Nib“, then Onoto will hand-make you almost any imaginable nib. This pen can also be supplied with a rollerball conversion kit in sterling silver. This is in addition to the fountain pen nib, allowing to change your pen to a rollerball simply by unscrewing one tip from the barrel (as you would to replace the cartridge) and screwing in the other.
