The Visconti Divina Proporzione range is one of our favourites. We'll let Visconti tell you about the magic of the numbers, but we'll tell you about the magic of this variation - the Desert Springs Divina.

The first thing that grabs you attention is the stunning variety of colours in the celluloid of which this pen is made. The red of the desert, mixed with yellows and greens to represent the desert blooming as the blue of the water snakes through it. Then you notice the shape - the twist of the barrel,and how it sits so comfortably in your hand. An then the size - it is an oversize version of the basic Divina. Finally, you see that it takes Visconti's extraordinary "Dreamtouch" 23 carat Palladium nib, at which point you decide that this is the pen for you!

ALL MAGIC IN A NUMBER

The Divine Proportion is based on the golden number, 1.618, which gives an ideal ratio which is enjoyable for the eye. This number, also called phi, is also used to trace circles divided through ten - called decagons - or through five - pentagons.
The discovery of the golden ratio comes from the most remote ancient times, from the prehistoric era. Our ancestors learned very soon how to trace and divide circles; they of course favoured the division of circles by five, because of the five fingers of the human hand. These numbers lead to the natural calculation of some special proportions. Euclid was first to mathematically define these calculations.
