| If you are looking for luxury and opulence in a pen, you should consider Onoto. It is one of the great names in British Fountain Pens, and currently has a range of superb pens to suit every hand and pocket. The Company was founded in 1905 by the De la Rue group, engineers and printers until then best known for the production of banknotes and playing cards. With the patent for the innovative self filling pen, a large advertising budget and some inspired advertising, they were quickly established as Onoto "the Pen. In 1927 production moved from the City of London to Strathendry, Scotland, where it remained until the Company was re launched on the Stock Exchange in 2005. Over the years Onoto supplied pens to many notable people, most famously Winston Churchill, who wrote to his wife Clementine from the trenches in 1915, asking that she send him "a new Onoto pen. I have stupidly lost mine." The current range includes the Magna, Excel, Royal Ballet series and Nelson and Emma pairing. A particular feature of Onoto pens is that, although offering only a fine, medium or broad nib as standard, for an additional charge of around £40, nibs can be ground to your individual specification, enabling stub, italic and oblique nibs to be made available.
